President Trump on February 8 announced his nomination of Charles P. Rettig for IRS Commissioner. Rettig is currently a tax attorney in California.
“During his 35+ year professional career with Hochman, Salkin, Rettig, Toscher & Perez, PC, Chuck Rettig has represented numerous taxpayers before every administrative level of the Internal Revenue Service as well as in matters before the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, and various other taxing authorities,” the White House stated in the announcement.
Rettig also served as Chair of the IRS Advisory Council for nearly 20 years and as a Member of the Advisory Board for the California Franchise Tax Board, according to the White House. Currently, Rettig serves as vice-chair for the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation and vice-president of the American College of Tax Counsel.
Rettig, if confirmed, will oversee the IRS’s implementation of the sweeping tax code overhaul enacted in December.
